Finally Finished... with Editing

In class today, my partner and I rewatched our commercial one final time. We noticed that some clips were a little too fast for the storyline. We split up the clips between us so we could each work on a better flow. Our goal was to determine which clip needed slowing down and by how much. My batch of clips was from the beginning of the commercial. Slowing down the beginning would change the whole pace of the commercial, which doesn't match the storyline. I rewatched my clips together several times before it became obvious which ones would help the commercial flow better if they were a touch slower. I experimented with the timing in a few different ways to see which way would actually help the flow. I think I tried too many options and variations of the timing on the clips because I completely messed up the commercial from the version I started with. My editing was making things worse. I realized that this was not going to help the commercial so I went to see what my partner was doing; Luckily for me, he had his editing more under control. He wasn't having the same challenges I was having. He had adjusted some of the clips to make them smooth with the same tempo. He helped me clean up my clips and we updated the commercial with these new edits. We rewatched the final product one last time and we both thought it came out the way we wanted. We find that we had not accounted for the aspect ratios. As we were watching the commercial, the aspects kept going from long to short and from short to long. It definitely bothered both of us and we wanted to see if it could be changed. After discussing with our teacher, it was going to require us to reshoot some of the scenes in order to have everything with the same aspect.  With the commercial due in a few days, our teacher said it was OK to keep the different aspects in place.  We definitely know what to do and what not to do for our next project.
