Judgements and Improvements
My editing partner and I watched the project video together one final time after taking a break so we could have a fresh perspective. We noticed that the speed of some clips was a little too fast for the storyline. We split up the clips between us so we could each work on a better flow. Our goal was to determine which clip's needed better pacing. My batch of clips was from the beginning of the project. Slowing down the beginning would change the whole pace of the project, which doesn't match the storyline. I rewatched my scenes together several times before it became obvious which ones would help the project flow better if they were a touch slower. I experimented with the timing in a few different ways to see which way would actually help the flow. I think I tried too many options and variations of the timing on the clips because I completely messed up the commercial from the version I started with. My editing was making things worse. I realized that this was not going to help the film so I went to see what my partner was doing; Luckily for me, she had her editing more under control. She wasn't having the same challenges I was having. She had adjusted some of the clips to make them smooth with the same tempo. She helped me clean up my clips and we updated the project with these new edits. We rewatched the final product one last time and we both thought it came out the way we wanted. We find that we had not accounted for the aspect ratios. As we were watching the film, the aspects kept going from long to short and from short to long. It definitely bothered both of us and we wanted to see if it could be changed. After discussing with our teacher, it was going to require us to reshoot some of the scenes in order to have everything with the same aspect.
